It’s mostly your
Mom/Dad & your immediate Siblings, the ones who have been with you since
your 1st day on the planet.. soo special are your Brothers/Sisters
who are your friends, philosophers and guides, especially the elder ones..
My sister it seems was very much fascinated looking at me,
sources say she used to look at me & feel like laughing, I don’t know if I
looked like a joke, or she saw some human smaller to her so closely for the 1st
time.. J ;)
There are many
mischievous as well as sensible things we did together.. Here are few from the
ones that we cherish the most! J
§ Having padd in the gallery.
We both (my Sister and I) love
eating, we often took mom made padd (a rice dish) in our gallery and put the
mat, sat together and ate it till almost all from the kitchen were over.. ;)
§ Seed in the stomach.
I think almost all have experienced
this that, when you ate some fruit with seeds, specially like watermelon, if by
mistake you swallow the seed, your siblings being as naughty as possible, start
telling stories by elaborating the event that just occurred, giving examples of
some people who swallowed the same seed before, saying in a scary tone, “Now a tree will start growing from your
stomach & it’s branches will come out from the nostril holes & ears,
wherever there is scope..” as though being live witnesses when it occurred to
those people.. My sister did this to me too, and poor me, ended up being tensed
& worried for the next few days… J ;)
§ Making me ready.
As ours wasn’t a joint family,
parents went to work, and so if we had to go to church etc, my sister used to
make me ready and comb my hair, I can still recollect, how she used to hold my
head in both her hands and say, “don’t shake, else your hair partition will
come like Malli maushi’s road” (By this statement she meant, that if I shook my
hair partition would come like the zigzag roads like in of one of our aunties
fields )
§ Spelling mistake.
I still remember one day, In school
when teacher showed the papers of our dictation test in 1st std, I
got one spelling wrong, and what I did was, I came home and started crying
loudly in front of my sister, telling her the whole classroom episode, saying
that, “I got one spelling wrong in dictation & now I’ll fail.. L”
hehehe.. J :D ;) :P That was my mind set before
this episode occurred, that even if one wrong, it’s fail!! And my sister had a
tuff time making me understand, and assuring me that I have passed the test. J this one was like an eye opener, scope to make
mistakes.. :P
§ Picnic at home.
I was in the primary and my sister in
high school, she studied upstairs and I used to be downstairs so as to avoid
disturbing her. I used to pack some eatables, sweet/ namkeen/ fruits, whatever
was available in the kitchen and then wrapped it well in a newspaper (as we
took a newspaper daily) then also stapled it or put a cello tape, and packed
it, then I used to put it in a basket I had, and take it up to my sister
upstairs, where my sister & I opened the parcel and ate, funn for a while, taking
a break!!
§ Ajji’s house.
Every summer holiday, my 2 cousins,
my sister and I, we 4 used to spend our summer vacations at our granny’s place,
there we had a lot of funn together, we used to cook rice by lighting a small
fire in the open space behind the house, we used to take food and eat in the
big tub that was used to store water, but being summer season it hardly
remained full, we used to wake up early to fill water whenever it came, our
basic intension was help, but more over play a while in water.. ;) eat tasty
food that grand mom made, also play the traditional langdi-batta, chakka wanti,
kitchen kitchen, teacher teacher, and we also finished our home work from
school as early as possible, so that we could get more time to have funn &
enjoy! We watched cartoons & movies together, and it used to be Di’s plan
every vacation to have fashion show and fancy dress competitions among us 4,
the confidential practices were funn, with one of our aunties as the judge!
§ Picnic in a garden @ Srinagar.
This was indeed the most mischievous
things we have done in our childhood!! Once we all 4 (my 2 cousins, my Di &
I) as planned by the elders of us 4, and we being younger supporting their
decision, we made the bhel items ready like onion, coriander, tomato, tamarind-water,
puffed rice (chirmure) and packed them all nicely, and decided to go to the
garden that was in Srinagar a place at a distance of 20 minutes’ walk from
granny’s place. We all 4 set out towards the garden without informing anyone at
home, at about 4 pm, from the back door of the house. On reaching the place, we
unpacked the items, mixed it and had the tasty bhel!! We remember we had cut
the tomato to eat, but we couldn’t find it anywhere, and as we had the bhel, we
discussed about the tomato, if we had left it in the kitchen and forgotten to
pack.. After we were done, while packing the things back & as we got up, we
found the tomato, one of us was sitting on it all this while!! Hahahha.. Tomato
mystery solved! And we set on our way back home to reach before it was dark, by
6:30 pm or so where some firing awaited us… must say, hats off to our guts,
then, crazy 4!!
§ Playing together.
I very well remember playing together
in the neighborhood, some of the games
we cherish playing include langdi-batta on the streets, red-letter A,B…, snakes
and ladders, chakka-wanti, cards, chess, shuttle badminton,
name-place-animal-thing & raja-rani-chor-police.. to name a few, and on
losing the game, how I used to get upset with my sister, and stop talking for
some time.. ;) J As being the youngest I used to lose
many times!! :P
§ Being my teacher.
I used to find maths and some other
things difficult to understand, but my sister, patiently taught me, without
getting angry on me for asking the same doubts and questions again and again.. Thanks
Dida for being soo tolerant and kind.. J
§ Wednesday cooks.
It was well planned routine, for both
of us, every Wednesday, we used to go to the local market, buy some vegetables,
and noodles and cook them, be it Hakka or Maggie noodles, we used to cook it
and eat with a boiled egg, carefully only the two of us in the kitchen, and we
made it sure to finish the cooking and washing by 9pm that night, so as not to
miss the famous Sanjeevani serial that was telecasted on star plus from 9-10pm
every Wednesday, seriously miss those yummy noodles and days..
§ Admission to school.
It seems on the day of my admission
to school, the nun at the interview asked my parents, if there was any sibling
of mine in the same school, my parents told my sisters name and class, and..
The nun said, “We have no objection in taking another student like her”. Got
the admission to the prestigious institution on my sisters merits.. J
Indeed would not have such lovely memories if you were not there my dearest
Dida, Thanks a ton, for being soo considerate, soo kind, soo caring, soo
loving, soo nice to me.. I feel soo privileged to have you as my sister, my 1st
friend, my guide… J LOVE YOU.. :*
